Terms of Service
The short version
Combobulato is a note-sharing app run by Dan Hughes from the UK. Use it however you want, as long as you're not breaking the law or making it worse for other people. Your notes are yours. We can't promise the service will always be available. If you want to leave, delete your account at any time.
Who these terms are between
You — the person using Combobulato, signed
in to an account.
Us — Combobulato, operated by Dan Hughes

By using the app, you agree to these terms. If you can't agree to them, don't use the app.
What we provide
Combobulato is a service for writing notes, grouping them by topic, and sharing them with other people through circles — plus a handful of related features like wishlists, to-do lists, and comments. We'll keep the service running as best we can, but we don't promise continuous uptime, specific response times, or that every feature will work forever. Features may change, be added, or be retired. Where changes would meaningfully affect what you signed up for, the "When this changes" section of the privacy policy applies.
How you can use it
You can use Combobulato for any legitimate personal or work purpose. What you can't do:
- Break the law with it (harassment, threats, fraud, content that's illegal where you or we are, infringing someone else's copyright, and so on).
- Use it to harm other users — doxing, abuse, spam, impersonation.
- Try to break it — probing for vulnerabilities outside a responsible-disclosure process, mass-automating requests, attempting to access other users' private data, or deliberately degrading the service for others.
- Scrape or bulk-export other users' content without their consent.
- Resell, sublicense, or pass off the service as your own.
We'll use judgement when applying this — if you're not sure whether something's OK, ask us.
Your content
You own what you write. Notes, comments, list items, wishlists, circle names — all yours. We don't claim ownership of any of it.
You give us a limited licence to run the service. To make Combobulato work, we need permission to store your content, display it to the people you've shared it with, process it through the features you've asked for (search, notifications, etc.), and back it up. This licence is limited to what's needed to run the service and covers only what you've put in. It ends when you delete the content or the account.
You're responsible for what you post. You confirm that you have the right to post what you're posting and that it doesn't break these terms. If you're sharing something that contains personal data about other people, you're responsible for having the right basis to do that.
Suspending or closing accounts
You can delete your account at any time. From the app, directly. We'll process the deletion as described in the privacy policy.
We can suspend or close an account if you're breaking these terms — in particular the acceptable-use list above. For most issues, we'll contact you first and give you a chance to fix it. For serious or urgent issues (illegal activity, coordinated abuse, active attacks on the service), we may suspend first and explain after. If we close your account, we'll explain why unless there's a legal reason not to.
Changes to these terms
Material changes to these terms — ones that change what you've agreed to in a meaningful way — follow the same consent model as the privacy policy. We'll email you, you'll be asked to opt in, and until you do, your existing terms stand. Small corrections (fixing a typo, clarifying wording) don't need re-consent. We'll always be clear which kind of change we're making.
Service "as is"
We provide Combobulato as it stands. We don't promise it's bug-free, that it'll suit your purpose, or that it'll always be available. We'll work in good faith to keep it running and improve it, but we're not guaranteeing any specific outcome from using it.
Liability
To the extent allowed by UK law:
- We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses (lost profits, lost data where you could have kept a backup, business interruption).
- Our total liability to you for anything related to the service is capped at whatever you've paid us in the last 12 months — which, today, is nothing, because there's no paid tier. If that changes and you're paying us, the cap updates accordingly.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for things the law says we can't limit (fraud, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, anything else a UK court wouldn't let us waive).
You're responsible for keeping your own backups of anything critical.
Age
You need to be at least 13 to use Combobulato. If you're under 18, you confirm you have permission from a parent or guardian.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If we have a dispute we can't resolve between ourselves, it'll be settled in the courts of England and Wales.
